Program Director

Dorina “Doreen” Lana joined Consuelo on February 16, 2023. She brings with her over 15 years of experience in combined child protection, partnership, program management and leadership from government and NGO perspectives. She is a registered social worker who started her career in the Philippines DSWD National Capital Region. She then moved to World Vision, where she worked on integrating child protection in emergency and development programs. Prior to joining the Consuelo ohana, she spent around 10 years in International Justice Mission (IJM), working on programs addressing child abuse, online sexual exploitation, and trafficking in persons. Later, she transitioned to grants and partnership development until she became the overall head of Grants Management. She has provided guidance to Consuelo Foundation and partners as an expert in child protection policies, trauma-informed care, and recovery and reintegration.

AMOSA O. OTT

Director of Operations

Mos is responsible for the strategic oversight and management of the finance, investment, human resources and office administration functions. She has degrees in accounting and business administration as well as certification as a public accountant. Mos has extensive accounting, investment, and administrative experience in the corporate and non-profit sectors and, before starting with Consuelo, worked as the Head of Operations for 10 years for a large international relief and development agency. Mos has also received the designation with highest honors as a Fellow at the Life Management Institute.

DR. MARIELLA S. CASTILLO

Managing Director

Trained as a pediatrician and public health professional Yella Castillo provides strategic direction and oversight of day-to-day operations and programs. She brings over two decades of experience in child protection and public health and the related interdisciplinary fields that respond to and prevent child abuse and neglect. She has published in international peer-reviewed journals on child protection and public health issues and has developed expansive networks that straddle academia, government, community support organizations, and other development partners. She has been recognized in the Philippines as a national The Outstanding Young Men and Women (TOYM) awardee in the field of child protection.

CHRISTINA B. KLEMME

Treasurer & Chief Financial Officer

A graduate of the Patsy T. Mink Leadership Alliance (2019-2020), Christina oversees the financial and investment work of the Foundation and ensures its compliance, efficiency, and overall stewardship. She has degrees in accounting and international business and holds certifications as a management accountant and in strategy and competitive analysis. Before returning to Hawai’i in 2017 to work in financial and strategic planning with Grace Pacific, LLC,, Christina held numerous finance and commercial positions in different countries and industries.

Lauren T. Pelascini

Chief Strategy Officer

Lauren is responsible for establishing strategies that drive development of new programs; refining high-level program policies and standards; and ensuring consistent monitoring across the Foundation. Lauren has degrees in community development and sociology, and she has extensive experience in strategic leadership roles for intercontinental development programs. She has also directly managed social service programs for vulnerable children and youth. Lauren lived in Manila for three years, covering programs in the Philippines, Indonesia, East Timor, and Micronesia.

Gregory T. Auberry

President & CEO

Since 2018, Greg provides overall leadership and strategic direction for Consuelo. He drives efforts to improve programs and efficiency as well as to more intentionally improve child protection systems in the Philippines and Hawai‘i. Previously, Greg studied politics and international development and, before coming to Consuelo Foundation, held numerous management positions at Catholic Relief Services, overseeing programs in Asia and Eastern Europe. He led a wide range of international social welfare projects that prevent human trafficking; support women and youth living with HIV and tuberculosis infections; and empower women, children, and youth.

RACHAEL WONG

Director

Rachael Wong has dedicated her career to improving the public health of Hawai‘i residents, including when she led the Hawai‘i Department of Human Services. As Vice President and CEO of the Healthcare Association of Hawai‘i, she incorporated a population health perspective into the state’s healthcare delivery system. She now leads One Shared Future, a social impact business that provides professional development to workers in the public, private, and non-profit sectors.

TIMOTHY E. JOHNS

Director

Tim Johns is the President and CEO of Zephyr Insurance Company. Over the course of his career, he has held leadership positions in the corporate, non-profit, and government sectors. He currently serves as a U.S. Commissioner for the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission and on the boards of Hawaiian Electric Company and the Parker Ranch Foundation Trust. He was formerly Chairperson of State of Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources and the Chief Consumer Officer of the Hawai‘i Medical Service Association.

DONALD W. LAYDEN JR.

Director

Don Layden, Jr. is Chairman of the Board of the United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties and of Ascension Wisconsin Healthcare. Additionally, he is active on several other nonprofit boards, including Social Current, the successor to the merger of the Council on Accreditation and the Alliance for Strong Families. Don is currently the President of the Payments and Network Group of NCR Corporation. He previously served as President and CEO of Cantaloupe, Executive Chairman of SafetyPay; President of Metavante International; and Senior Executive VP, General Counsel, and Secretary of Metavante Technologies, Inc. He has served on the boards of several public and private companies, including Firstsource Solutions, Ltd., which is based in Mumbai.

I. PATRICK GRIGGS

Director

Paddy Griggs is a retired audit partner of Deloitte & Touche. He started his career in 1960 with a Deloitte-affiliated firm in South Africa and subsequently worked in the San Francisco, Anchorage, and Honolulu practices from 1969 through 2000. He was admitted to the Deloitte partnership in 1979 and towards the end of his career oversaw quality control in the Hawai‘i practice. He was responsible for a diverse clientele, including several in the not-for-profit and social service sectors. Consuelo Foundation was one of his clients.

ALEJANDRO Z. PADILLA

Director

The nephew of our founder, Alex Padilla has served on the boards of several non-profit organizations such as Anesvad, which provides leprosy assistance to residents of the Culion Island in the Philippines. He previously worked for Sainco-Abenoga Spain, a multi-national company involved in the energy, infrastructure, and telecommunications industries.

Bob Tsushima has served on a number of boards, including the Child Welfare League of America, the Marianist Center of Hawai‘i, and Catholic Charities of Hawai‘i. He is a retired Senior Project Manager with SSFM International Inc., a civil and structural engineering firm with offices in Hawai‘i, the Philippines, Guam, and Okinawa.

JEFFREY N. WATANABE

Director

Throughout his career, Jeff Watanabe has remained active in the non-profit sector, having chaired the boards of Consuelo Foundation, Sesame Workshop, The Nature Conservancy of Hawai‘i, University of Hawai‘i Foundation, and Blood Bank of Hawai‘i. He is the retired founding partner of Watanabe Ing LLP, a Hawai‘i-based law firm. He has also served on the boards of multiple New York Stock Exchange companies and continues to serve on the boards of private enterprises.

PATTI J. LYONS

Director

Patti Lyons has spent over 60 years working for children’s rights. She served as the first President and CEO of Consuelo Foundation from 1988 to 2006. Ms. Lyons continues to serve on the boards of several international organizations and has earned numerous awards for her leadership and innovation in the field of social services, especially for abused children.

HOYT H. ZIA

Secretary

Hoyt Zia has been a member of the Consuelo Foundation Board since 2010. He retired as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary for Hawaiian Airlines, Inc. For most of his career, Mr. Zia was a practicing attorney in San Francisco and Honolulu. He also served in the public sector during the Clinton administration.

CONSTANCE H. LAU

Chair

Connie Lau retired in 2021 as President and CEO of Hawaiian Electric Industries, one of Hawai‘i’s largest public companies. She formerly chaired the boards of its two operating subsidiaries: Hawaiian Electric Company and American Savings Bank. Ms. Lau continues to be involved in community organizations such as the Hawai‘i Business Roundtable and the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies.
