Recently, several staff and partners of Consuelo Foundation Hawaii Office had the opportunity to view the documentary Rise and Dream.  The film chronicles the inspiring process of youth in Zamboanga, Philippines in learning how to play and perform the indigenous instruments and music of their country.  The film was shown at the Honolulu Museum of Art as part of the Filipino Film Festival in May, 2013.  One of our Hawaii partners is the Farrington Tshirt Theatre.  Many of the youth who attend Farrington High School and who perform in the Tshirt theatre group, share Filipino roots.  Consuelo Foundation provides support for a group of youth actors from the Tshirt Theatre, directed by Geoge Kon, to perform a touring one act play which addresses topics related to violence and bullying.  A meeting of creative minds happened when we brought a group from Farrington Tshirt Theatre to view Rise and Dream.  The film's composer, Barclay Martin, was excited to spend some time in discussion and creative exchange with the youth after the film.  Everyone seemed to walk away feeling more connected and inspired.
